ITANAGAR, May 24: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Lohit working from Chongkham under NRC on Yak (ICAR) conducted two training on scientific cultivation of rice and integrated pest management (IPM) in rice at Namliang village recently. A total of 26 farmers attended the training.

First NE India Mt Everest Expedition concludes
ITANAGAR, May 24: The First North East India Mt. Everest Expedition came to an end after last member Manish Deka of Assam reached the summit of Mount Everest today at 5.45 am.
Manish Deka is the second climber from Assam to reach Mt. Everest.
Altogether 11 members of the team, including two from Arunachal Pradesh, successfully scaled the Mount Everest.
The team is expected to arrive in Delhi on May 30.
The expedition was organized by Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association, Manipur with support from Planning Department, Govt. of Manipur.
North Eastern Council, Shillong sponsored the expedition.
The expedition was flagged off by President of India on March 20.
Union calls for rescheduling of exam
ITANAGAR, May 24: The All Arunachal Pradesh Unemployed Engineers’ Association (AAPUEA) has appealed the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) secretary to reschedule AE (Civil) Examination.
As most of the engineering departments have not been able to send information regarding the various vacant seats to the Public Service Commission because of the recently held municipal and Panchayat elections, so the exam should be conducted only after all the paper works are done, AAPUEA said in a release.
Moreover, for most of the candidates residing in far flung areas, it will be difficult for them to reach during monsoon, it further said in the release.
Ajaypal Singh takes charge
ITANAGAR, May 24: Ajaypal Singh, Deputy Inspector General, has taken over the charge
of ITBP Itanagar sector on May 23 last. Prior to this assignment, Singh, an ITBP

Ramesh assures Arunachal to sanction proposals
under MNREGA schemes
NEW DELHI, May 24: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today called on Union Minister of Rural Development Jairam Ramesh at New Delhi to discuss the developmental projects related to RD in the state in the coming financial year. The Chief Minister briefed Ramesh about the steps taken by the State Government to hasten the process of submission of projects to the Ministry in order to ensure the timely implementation of the various schemes under Rural Development.
Ramesh assured Tuki to immediately sanction the proposals under the MNREGA schemes which were submitted to the Union Ministry yesterday. The Union Minister mentioned that he will also sanction the schemes related to the Integrated Wastelands Development Programme (IWDP) scheme of the Ministry upon receipt of proposals from the state and that he will also increase the IAY allocation for the benefit of the Puroik community of the state.

Students protest against delay in
disbursing of stipend

ITANAGAR, May 24: Large group of students today took out a rally demanding the releasing and enhancement of stipend money. The rally took off from Akashdeep market and ended at higher education office. The releasing of stipend money has always been an intriguing issue among the students community especially for students studying outside the state.
During the procession student community took the matter to the higher educational officials in order to sort out the prolonged grievances. In the meanwhile, a team of students had meeting with the higher educational director and officials. The student group claimed that the authority has responded positively to their demands. They said, “Authorities has already released the stipend and promised to give the student exact money. In order to fulfill the demand proposed by students, the stipend money will be directly transacted into the bank account of an individual’s account.” This may come as a relief for the students studying outside. They also added, “Final year students studying in various institutes all over India can collect their stipend from Itanagar henceforth presenting their course completed certificate”. The students group also admitted that officials have promised them that they will very soon initiate the proposed demand made by them.
All in all, the rally was concluded on a very peaceful manner and the student community has shown their gratitude towards the concerned authority for hearing out there voices.
Rivers of capital turning into dumping site

Just take few seconds to notice the following rivers/streams:
· Pachin river while crossing the Barapani bridge at Naharlagun
· Stream flowing below Lagun bridge at Naharlagun
· Senki river at Chandan Nagar bridge at Itanagar
An average observer, especially who had been living in this capital city for the last few years, could easily tell the difference about its cleanliness about a decade back and now.
At present, in twin capital of the state, almost the entire human waste is whole heartedly being dumped into the streams and rivers without being treated. Weather its human excreta, excavated earth, garbage or industrial wastes; they all end up in streams, resulting in rapidly deteriorating condition of water bodies. Major problem being the dumping of excavated earth and deforestation. Excavated earth during earth cutting is directly dumped into lower ridges of mountain, which usually blocks small streams that feed the main river. Even if it is not directly dumped onto river/stream, it finds its way towards rivers during rainy season through the process of soil erosion and surface runoff. This extra earth causes excessive siltation of water bodies and completely changes its previous natural environment. During rain, everybody must have noticed completely murky rivers/streams, well that’s because of soil erosion due to lose excavated soil and deforestation. Siltation of river beds prevents free flow of water, leading streams/rivers being almost stagnant, thereby harming natural water cycle. If not in our state, it of course will lead to flood in lower reaches like in Assam.
Other human waste leads to increase in population of harmful micro-
I still remember when we were kid; we used to swim in Pachin River to beat the summer heat. But today given its condition, I would like to see only my enemies swim there. This process of polluting our precious water bodies must be stopped for betterment of the entire human race. This mentality of seeing water bodies as the easiest and cheapest form of drainage of human waste must be changed. A proper waste management must be formulated and implemented. Just blaming the government and officials won’t solve the problem, neither writing articles on paper will. A collective approach from the entire society is a must. However, few individual contributions can make a great deal of difference, simply by changing few habits, like:
1. Not dumping kitchen/domestic waste directly to water bodies
2. Constructing proper septic tanks
3. Not dumping cloths, polythene, plastic bottles etc. to water bodies as it chocks the flow of water
4. Not breaking bottles on river side or in river
5. Making use of dustbins instead etc.
Though small, but such individual contribution will be of a great help to our mother nature. We cannot bring a revolution, but at least let us contribute our bid towards a Clean and Green Arunachal. I feel great to do my bid. (The writer is a Range Forest Officer with Govt of AP)
A repulsive episode that lasted long …!

A young boy appeared to be at his 11 or 12 years of age was jostling through crowd fighting for his place in queue with voter identity card in one hand to cast vote somewhere near polling station at Kendriya Vidalaya, Chimpu Itanagar in recently concluded Itanagar Municipality election.
Young boy could cast the vote without any hurdle; neither people standing in a queue nor officers in duty had any words of protest on the legitimacy of his right to cast vote, though he did not attain eligibility age of 18 to enjoy the adult franchise. Similar young voters were reportedly turned out to cast their votes in Panchayat election on the “judgment day” (May 16th) at different polling stations particularly at remote villages across the state.

The slight movement like dare to object could end up them with major altercation and physical assault and life threatening.
Though over all report of Panchayat election was claimed to be passed off peacefully, the murkier side of it that caught everybody’s attention, was death of a youth at Koloriang in Kurung Kumey district after group clash broke out during filing of nomination paper, the physical assault on officers on duty at Seppa and Palin and setting vehicles on fire at Dirang in West Kameng district (which went unreported).

BJP, AAPSU demand inquiry into Palin firing
ITANAGAR, May 24: State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded a thorough inquiry into the May 22 firing incident at Palin in which a contesting BJP candidate for Panchayat election was grievously injured.
In its complaint letter to State Election Commission (SEC), BJP claimed that party’s Langdang Anchal Samity candidate Takam Tagung suffered serious bullet injury when security personnel opened fire to disperse an angry mob.
“Tagung was innocent and had never been a part of the irate mob. He has been targeted without any provocation,” the party said in the complaint letter.
“Since the instant case is poll related we demand your immediate intervention in the matter,” the letter said.
While condemning the incident in its strongest term, BJP demanded stern action against those responsible for the incident. The party also demanded financial assistance for the victim, who is currently undergoing treatment at RK Mission Hospital here.
The State BJP President Tai Tagak accompanied by General Secretary BR Wage and Secretary (Orgn) BJP East Arunachal Ramesh Kaddaganchi yesterday visited Tagung at RK Mission Hospital to enquire about the victim’s wellbeing.

TAWANG, May 24: A high level delegation of Union Ministry of Tourism held detailed discussions with the State Tourism Department to chalk out arrangements for the upcoming International Travel Mart to be held in Tawang in the third week of October this year.
A detailed presentation on district’s infrastructure facilities for hosting the ITM was made before the visiting high level delegation comprising Addl. Director General (MR) AK Gupta, Dr. Mamta Kochar Director (ENE) and VP Bhatia, General Manager ITDC by the state tourism department.
It may be recalled that the first edition of the international Travel Mart was held in Guwahati in January, 2013 in which more than 80 foreign delegates representing 26 countries participated.
The Ministry of Tourism has selected Tawang as the venue for this prestigious international event to showcase Northeast as a favoured Tourist destination to the international tourism.

DIGAR Committee Meets to Draw Perspective Plan for West Siang
AALO, May 24: In its effort to make planning process more participatory, transparent and scientific, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of West Siang Deputy Commissioner M K Sahoo today in his office in connection with the District Infrastructure Gap Assessment Report (DIGAR).
Spelling out the objective behind the meet, the DC said that it is important to work out infrastructures gaps in the district to compile a district infrastructure gap assessment report for further compilation to form a ‘State Infrastructure Assessment Report’. He asked all executive agencies and HODs to draw futuristic plan by working out new projects and infrastructures requiring up gradation priority wise taking the confidence of elected representatives. The road connectivity, rural electrification, drainage system, health and educational institution, urban and rural sanitation and other infrastructure requirements, public utilities like cold storage, market sheds, boundary walls should also be included in the proposal.
The infrastructures that have outlived its utility should be worked out separately to avoid unnecessary and huge expenditure, the DC said and asked the HODs to complete the task by June 10 for proper review and onward submission to Govt.
Highlighting on various projects that are being implemented by the govt. in the district, the DC urged the executing agencies to give Monthly Project Status Report of ongoing projects on prescribed format that will be made available with information of fund allocation, expenditure, specification and status of the project for uploading in official website for the purpose of easy monitoring.

Steps to mitigate drinking water problem in Roing township discussed
ROING, May 24: An emergency meeting was held in the office chamber of the Deputy Commissioner of Lower Dibang Valley district to discuss the water supply problem and possible remedial measures in the Roing Township and the adjoining villages today. Local MLA Laeta Umbrey attended the meeting besides heads of the Department.
Highlighting the drinking water supply system, EE PHE & WS Department Er Subhat Pertin informed that the Water Supply System of the township was installed during 70’s during the time of CPWD and most of existing pipe networks is corroded and irreparable. No proper treatment plant were incorporated during that time, he further informed.

The rainfall occurred on 8 April’ 2013 damaged the temporary head works of Deopani Power Channel cum Water Supply and there is huge deposition of silt in whole course of Eze (Deopani) River. A dam like structure has formed due to slide of hill in to the course of Eze river at the upstream side of tapping point of drinking water. The continuous falling of soil is adding turbidity even in sunny days as a result of which PHE & WS Department is not in position to provide regular and clean water to consumers of Roing and its satellite villages, he added.
He also informed that the department is putting constant effort to restore water supply from available sources and has put tankers on road. The division has one Tanker of 2000 Litres and one Mini Truck capable of carrying 5000 litres of water in Sintex for distribution during crisis hours.

In order to arrest the prevailing turbidity of water from Deopani Source problem, a proposal for using existing Water Treatment Plant (WTP) has been submitted to the authorities with estimate of Rs 10.00 lakhs and accordingly the Chief Engineers had consented to go ahead with the proposal. It was also informed that a Water Tanker for Roing Division has been purchased by the department recently whose body building work is going on and is expected to reach Roing shortly.

Life is not bed of roses
Dear Editor,
All of us want to be successful in life. But everyone has a different outlook towards life. While some talk it as a struggle for survival, others take it an opportunity to grow. Life is a great test of our abilities and our desires. To achieve success hard work is essential. Since life is not a bed of roses, we must learn to struggle to achieve our target and we must not give up at any cost.
There is a saying “Failures are the pillar of success in life”. So, in .order to be successful we must try to learn from our mistakes and defeats. Moreover, it is impossible to have winners without loser. No one can be perfect in life since, to err is human. Yet practice plays an important role in achieving success. Everything is possible on earth if we practice regularly. So, we must not worry about problems and waste our time. Instead, we must try to find the solution.
Our life is no value if we don’t do something for the betterment of the humanity. Moreover success does not mean only one’s progress but also to improve others. Slow and steady wins the race. Since, the golden age is before us, we must walk, slow but we also should not look back in our life with pain. Then only we will be successful in our life.

In this regard, we the local unemployed youth would like to seek appropriate clarification from CIHCS authority concerned and urge them to immediately declare the result of cited posts with free and fair and preference should be given to APST candidate. Delay in declaration of the result may demoralized the talented candidates
Besides, we also appeal to Apex student body AAPSU, Arunachal Civil Society and other likeminded organization to join us strongly to pressurize the authority concern.

Pothole filled Basar road
Dear Editor,
Through the column of your esteemed daily I would like to draw the attention of concerned authorities to a very big issue being faced by the local residents of Basar town in West Siang district. There is no proper road maintenance starting from the initial starting point to the final end point of Basar which gives inconvenience to the commuters. One more thing to be reflected is that there is lot of potholes as a result of which frequent accident takes place. I would like to request the concerned authorities to look into the matter and work out a solution at the earliest possible for the benefit and wellbeing of the people.

Melting glaciers behind sea-
A new study has found that shrinking glaciers were responsible for almost a third
of the rise in sea-
Though Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets straddle over 99 per cent of earth's land mass, the ice locked up in the remaining glaciers contributed just as much to the rise in the sea levels, researchers say.
All glacial regions lost mass from 2003 to 2009 the worst affected being Arctic Canada, Alaska, coastal Greenland, the southern Andes and the Himalayas. The glaciers outside the Greenland and Antarctic sheets lost an average of 260 billion metric tonnes of iceannually during the study period, causing the oceans to rise 0.03 inches, or about 0.7 millimeters per year.
Current estimates predict if all the glaciers in the world were to melt, they would raise sea level by about two feet. In contrast, anentire Greenland ice sheet melt would raise sea levels by 20 feet, while if Antarctica lost its ice cover, it would rise 200 feet.
